Founded in 1880, the historically rich institution of Senshu University is a private university operating across two campuses - the Kanda Campus in Chiyoda City, Tokyo, and the Ikuta Campus in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture; between the urban environment of one and the verdant surrounds of the other, educational and research activities are geared towards effectively optimizing the unique characteristics of each location. Situated on a hill adjacent to Ikuta Ryokuchi Park, the Ikuta Campus benefits from a spacious site area and rich natural environment despite its proximity to the city center, and offers an environment equipped comprehensively with facilities to support learning and interaction, including classroom buildings, a library, an information sciences center, sports facilities, and nine cafeterias.
An eight-storey building housing the library, information sciences center, research laboratories and dining facilities, Building No.9 features an open and airy atrium bathed in natural light on its 5th floor, and Senshu University carried out renovation works in this atrium in September 2025 to upgrade its high bay lighting installation.
The renovation works saw the application of light-blocking film to the ceiling panels to mitigate the effects of direct sunlight, and the replacement of the existing metal halide lamp fixtures on a one-for-one basis with LEDioc HIGH-BAY θ 160W luminaires - a step above concurrent luminaires in the same field, they have delivered both improved levels of brightness and energy savings. Ensuring a design illuminance of over 200ℓx, a comforting light envelops the large, open space where students study, chat, and enjoy spending their time.
