JR Ome Line Higashi-Nakagami StationAkishima City, Tokyo
A change to LED for platform lighting at a station in an area where attractive city development is progressing contributes to power savings while creating a safer visual environment
Add to My ListTokyo's Akishima City and East Japan Railway Company carried out construction work to raise the Higashi-Nakagami Station building over the JR Ome line and allow free passage, with full-service commencing from March 2018.
With the completion of the work to raise the station building and allow free passage, it has become more convenient for locals, with the station now a transportation node also taking barrier-free access into consideration. Until now, the ticket gate at the North Exit was only available on special occasions, but convenience has been improved with a permanent ticket gate now in place.
For the raising of the station building, full consideration was given to environmental aspects, with roofing materials with excellent thermal insulation and LED lighting being used, while the platform lighting saw the existing mercury lamps updated to LEDioc ROAD S LED roadlights (featuring light distribution for sidewalk lighting). The color for the poles is a designated dark brown matching the chic base color tones of the station building. In addition to realizing power savings from the upgrade to long-life and power-saving LED lighting, positive feedback has been received from train drivers (because the platforms, which are lit even during the day because they are surrounded by apartment buildings, have become brighter, making for better visibility when opening and closing doors), and the consensus is that the change has also contributed to improved safety for customers.
