The largest of its kind in the area, Culture Resort Odawara is a selective day care facility designed around the motto of "creating an environment that residents can enjoy in comfort", under the theme of "next-generation day care". In addition to adopting a barrier-free layout and universal design, the center features a bright, airy atmosphere, with designs and furnishings intended to not feel 'institutional'. While the day care center was previously mainly for a female clientele, recent years have seen an increase in the number of male users to bring the male-to-female ratio to around 50:50. In order to meet the diverse needs of its residents, Culture Resort Odawara offers a full range of facilities and activities for their satisfaction and enjoyment, including bread-making classes, handicraft classes, a cafeteria, karaoke rooms, mahjong rooms, bathing facilities, and an exercise corner. The facility also offers an after-school day care center equipped with a large garden, where elderly people and children are able to interact and get to know each other, actively promoting intergenerational exchange and contributing positively to the wider community.
The lighting scheme for the facility focused on "quality of light", actively incorporating architectural and indirect lighting to illuminate the angled ceiling with LED lighting. Providing light with a sense of spread to create a soft, enveloping lighting effect devoid of glare, the space benefits from a sense of security and relaxation whilst still ensuring ample levels of brightness. Compact LEDioc FLOOD LUNT LED floodlights and small LEDioc UNO spotlights have been used as indirect lighting, with the former brightly illuminating the ceiling whilst the latter, whose positions and angles can be adjusted, allow for flexibility with the lighting style to meet the needs of how spaces are used.
The adaptable lighting scheme delivers "gentle light" that is attuned to each and every user of the facility, and a focusing on the quality and presentation of the light has delivered a lighting environment befitting a tranquil and soothing space.
