March, 2025

Relocated from Saitama City to Ageo City, the Saitama Prefecture Budokan was opened in 2003 as a hub from where martial arts would be promoted in Saitama prefecture, and it features a full range of facilities - including the main dojo, the first dojo (tatami), the second dojo (floor), an archery range, indoor and outdoor sumo rings, and a conference room. The venue is equipped to host a broad range of events, from smaller events through to large scale tournaments like the National Athletic Meet, and it is also used as a practice and competition venue for a wide range of sports including table tennis, volleyball, and rhythmic gymnastics in addition to its staple of martial arts. Incorporating a traditional wooden architectural design in its large roof and timber frame, the building is also characterized by its environmentally mindful approach, actively utilizing natural energy sources such as sunlight and solar heat.

The venue was newly reopened in August 2025 following a comprehensive program of renovation works carried out by the prefecture. Wirelessly dimmable LEDioc HIGH-BAY Γ fixtures in 120W and 235W models have been installed to illuminate the main dojo which spans an area of 1887 m², and can accommodate a variety of activities and events including judo, kendo, volleyball, and badminton. The Wi-CONNECTY wireless control system through which the lighting is operated, provides controls across multiple patterns and settings, enabling a flexibility of operation that allows for ranges of brightness and illuminance to be set at levels appropriate to each application and purpose. 180W general-purpose LEDioc HIGH-BAY Γ fixtures have been installed to illuminate the second dojo, which spans 810 m² and is equipped with three official competition level judo courts.

The lighting across both dojos was replaced on a one-for-one basis with the existing installation, meaning that significant energy savings could be delivered in tandem with a high quality lighting environment that is mindful of glare minimization and uniformity of light.
