With a lighting scheme optimizing the features of LED lighting, the visual impact of one of the premier aquariums in Japan is further accentuated
Add to My ListLooking out over the Pacific Ocean from its location in Oarai Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, Aqua World Ibaraki Prefecture Oarai Aquarium is amongst the biggest of its kind in Japan. Sharks are seen as one of the symbols of the aquarium, and accordingly it boasts the largest collection of them in Japan; it also features the largest dedicated Ocean Sunfish tank in Japan, and with around 580 variants across 60 tanks of varying sizes, visitors are able to encounter around 68000 aquatic creatures.
In March 2023 works were carried out at the aquarium to update the lighting in the tanks and backroom areas to LED, with full color changing LED floodlights offering major energy savings in addition to the possibilities of creating a kaleidoscopic array of arrangements. With a volume of 1300t, the "Large water tank of the Sea of Encounters" in the "Encounter Sea Zone" is the largest in the aquarium. Using this tank as its platform, the IWASHI LIFE show sees around 20000 sardines swimming in sync to create a high impact performance, and its visual impact has been raised yet further with the upgrade of the lighting above the tank to full color changing LEDioc FLOOD FULL-COLOR floodlights, and addition of DMX controls; displaying a delicate array of colors in the tank through a multicolored range of patterns to work in sync with an accompanying musical score, visitors are treated to an elaborate performance. In July 2023, "Glittering Coral Reef Fish" tank of the "Eternal Sea Zone" was upgraded to the one that is home to 3000 colorful fish of across 40 varieties in July 2023. In this tank, high color rendering versions of LEDioc FLOOD NEO floodlights and LEDioc FLOOD FULL-COLOR floodlights combine to display the group swimming of these colorful fish in a way that closely replicates their natural environment.
In the open and airy atrium of the "Connected Waterside Zone" which replicates the nature of Ibaraki's rivers, ceiling mounted Ra95 color rendering LEDioc FLOOD NEO Vivid class 80 floodlights help to produce views that remain faithful to nature. Through carefully considered light planning appropriate to each area, the near total LED revamp of the lighting for the tanks and backroom areas has delivered significant energy savings in addition to showing the appeal of the aquarium in its best light.
