about

The 8.8km extension of the Higashi Kanto Expressway's Mito Line from Ibaraki Airport North Interchange (IC) was completed and inaugurated in March 2010. It connects to the Ibarakimachi junction and to the Kita Kanto Expressway. After consideration of illuminance needs and maintenance and running costs, LED floodlights (LEDioc FLOOD NEO wide-angle light distribution type) have been installed as the lighting fixtures for the Ibaraki Airport North tollgate buildings. Instrumental in their adoption is the fact that they have a brightness equivalent to - or greater than - a 500W self-ballasted mercury lamp and are suited to lighting toll booths where a high level of illuminance is required. Another factor is that their long operating life of 40000 hours will contribute to maintenance savings. The final decision was made after weighing up the total life cycle cost and comparing it to that of other options such as fluorescent lamps. Ibaraki Airport North tollgate comprises four lanes, with two lanes each for entry and exit, and one lane each as an ETC lane. By using long-life LEDs, the labor involved in changing lamps has been reduced. Also, by concentrating the positioning of the lighting fixtures on one side, consideration has also been given to enabling maintenance work to take place when required without closing the ETC lanes.
