A car showroom lighting plan with impressive architectural construction and a perspective-based design concept
Add to My ListNiigata Toyopet's Niigata Higashi Store reopened after relocating to new premises in June of 2017. The new location is on a site roughly 2430m² in size, and features roughly 1260m² for the building area and roughly 1680m² in total floor space surrounded by all-glass paneling in a space spread over two floors with an overflowing open feeling. In terms of the architectural design, because there is a workshop to the back of the premises and the depth of the showroom is large compared to its frontage, the structure of the showroom building has been provided with a slight distortion instead of using a simple rectangular shape. In other words, the shape is one where the horizontal and vertical surfaces have been cut obliquely and the roof slopes down from the diagonal line, and by making the ends of the walls form slightly acute angles, it aims for an effect that provides an optical illusion to the human sense of near and far. This makes the front of the building look longer than it actually is when approaching from the Niigata City direction, while from the opposite direction, the design calls forth a finely calculated optical illusion so that no perspective effect takes place, and aims to focus on the view of the showroom from the road to display the limited frontage as being more elongated. With respect to the lighting plan, for the brightness settings for the entire showroom, spotlights have been used as the base lighting, creating a relaxing impression in which neither the 1st nor the 2nd floor is too bright. The space has not been lit uniformly, but instead the display vehicles, meeting tables, and shelves have been illuminated with focused lighting from class 300 LEDioc LED SPOTLIGHT (SMD type) lights for clear delineation of lighted areas. Furthermore, LED downlights have been evenly spaced around the floor to create pools of light on the ground, providing accents to the space. When seen from the outside, the shine from the LED downlights on the 2nd floor is eye catching, increasing the building's sense of presence. Meanwhile, the workshop uses lighting fixtures that are a combination of high-ceiling lightshades, holders, and 115W LEDioc LED EYE LAMP lights, ensuring a brightness of 750ℓx, and promoting power savings while also creating a comfortable work environment that brightly lights working hands. In this space with ceiling heights of 4.2m - 6.5m, the use of long-life LED light sources has the merit of contributing to reduced maintenance costs, while the use of compatible color temperatures according to each area - 4000K for the showroom and 5000K for the workshop - has created a high-quality lighting environment with a sense of unity.
