Kure City Gymnasium is a gymnasium that has been widely used by many people since its completion of construction in 1964. In addition to its main court with an area of 1681m² (41m×41m) and able to seat up to 2700 spectators, and a sub-court with an area of 276m² (25m×9m), it has an extensive range of facilities including meeting rooms, changing rooms, shower rooms and a parking lot. In order to ensure the safety of Kure City Gymnasium, which has seen approximately 54 years since its completion, and also to improve comfort, Kure City conducted a large-scale renovation of the entire facility in August 2018, and as part of that, the renovation of all of the lighting equipment was carried out.

For the lighting renovation for the main court, as it is used for a variety of ball-sports such as volleyball, basketball and badminton, LEDioc HIGH-BAY Γ (simple model) LED high ceiling lighting fixtures were selected bearing in mind reduced glare when looking upwards. The have diffusion-type front globes, which enable them to reduce the glare in gymnasiums where players often look upwards at the ceiling. Furthermore, they are ultrawide-angle lights with a wide angle of illumination, so they produce a highly uniform light environment with no unevenness.

The facility is adjacent to Oita Stadium (Showa Denko Dome Oita), which is one of the venues for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and is expected to be used as the AD Center and volunteer waiting rooms for the duration of the competition.
