As part of the project taking advantage of the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen to establish the area around Toyama Station, Toyama City is proceeding with a north-south streetcar connection project. A station will be newly established underneath the overhead Shinkansen and normal rail lines, connecting the streetcar lines north and south of the station, with work commencing on the first section from underneath the overhead Shinkansen lines to the plaza in front of the station's south exit in conjunction with the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen in March of 2015. A streetcar tack extension of roughly 160m was started, and a station called "Toyama Station" was newly established under the overhead Hokuriku Shinkansen lines. The station adjoins the Shinkansen and existing rail line ticket gates, as well as the bus and taxi stands, and is an extremely convenient hub at which to change transportation. The track section features a design involving consecutive, glowing arch-shaped aerial wiring pillars that emphasizes its north-south axis, and uses indirect lighting from LED line units. Furthermore, in addition to the indirect lighting from LED line units on the station's arch-shaped pillars, compactdesign LEDioc FLOOD NINO LED floodlights (with split covers) have been incorporated, brightly lighting the platforms with power-saving light.
