Shin-Takaoka Station is a station that was newly established in conjunction with the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, and is located roughly 1.5km south of the center of Takaoka City. Takaoka City is aiming at the improvement of transport convenience and the revitalization of the city's central area, and to that end established both free and paid parking lots for roughly 800 vehicles in the area around Shin-Takaoka Station.

Of those parking lots, the city-operated Shin-Takaoka Station No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 parking lots are "Shinkansen Park & Ride" outdoor, level-surface parking lots for a total of 256 vehicles. Dark brown LEDioc ROAD LED streetlights that take the scenery into account have been installed in the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 parking lots, as well as in the station south parking lot, and light the parking lots in comfort and safety with power-saving LED light.

Furthermore, in consideration of the stores and homes on the station's north side, as well as the rice paddies to its south, rear shade louvers have been attached where required in order to prevent light-bleed into those areas.
