about

Installation date

August, 2017

As part of its steam locomotive revival operation project in the Nikko Kinugawa area, Tobu Railway Co., Ltd. started working operation of the steam locomotive "TAIJU" from August of 2017. The operational section is the 12.4 km between Shimoimaichi and Kinugawa Onsen on the Tobu Kinugawa Line in Tochigi Prefecture's Nikko City, and the time required is roughly 35 minutes. Full-scale renovations have been carried out on Shimoimaichi Station, which is the steam locomotive's base for arrival and departure, and it has been reborn as a station with a retro sense that is a vivid reminder of the Showa Era during which steam locomotives used to run. The premises include a new Shimoimaichi Steam Locomotive Engine Shed, which is a base for steam locomotive inspections and maintenance, along with a steam locomotive exhibition hall and a turntable area that has been put in place and enables upclose observation of the magnificent steam locomotives. For the lighting illuminating the steam locomotive engine shed, the station's concept was for a "retro tone with a motif of the Showa Era", and based on this LEDioc FLOOD NEO LED floodlights have been installed with light sources that have a uniform incandescent color. Classic-type pole lights with incandescent LEDioc LED Light Bulbs as light sources have also been used for the turntable area, which is open to the public, and these have been painted in relaxed dark color tones to create a lighting space with overall fine-quality and relaxing warmth. In addition to the steam locomotive engine shed, the station building has also been organized with incandescent lighting and dark color tones for the buildings, and a uniform retro tone for both the exterior and interior has given birth to a station with an elegance befitting the entranceway for the steam locomotive "TAIJU".
