JR Mougi Station is an unmanned station one stop from Koriyama Station on the Banetsu East Line with an average of roughly 700 users per day. The station premises include the remains (stone wall) of the ballast hopper that was made to make and carry the rubble that was spread under the tracks. Mougi Station commenced operation in July of 1914, and became wholly unmanned in March of 1993, but the cherry trees (Someiyoshino) planted by the local residents when the station commenced operation still remain to this day. Following that, with the station becoming an unmanned station, the unused land on the southern side of the station premises succumbed to the wilderness, but a local residents' organization called "The Mougi Development Committee" has cleared the area of weeds and small trees, and also planted cherry saplings and azaleas in the unused section of the station premises. The station was selected for the 2016 Regional Creation Comprehensive Support Project, which is a subsidy from Fukushima Prefecture, and illuminated the cherry trees on the station premises. Transcending space and time, the collaborative illumination of the cherry trees entrusted by the area's ancestors and those planted by the development committee became a talking point for not only the local residents, but also many visitors. In order to create a more beautiful effect for the pale pink of the cherry blossoms, white LEDioc FLOOD NEO Vivid LED floodlights have been used for the illumination. Samples of standard-type (5000K) LEDioc FLOOD NEO lights are also installed, so in comparing the two one can really sense how much better the Vivid-type lights reproduce color. The remains (stone wall) of the ballast hopper have also been lit with incandescent LEDioc FLOOD NEO Vivid lights to create an historical and emotional effect.
