Mita Shopping District is a shopping district located in Tokyo's Minato Ward Mita area alongside National Route 1 (commonly called Sakurada Street), which is the border with neighboring Shiba to the east. The area is a lively one with a mixture of business and residential streets, and their beauty is one of the features of the area. Vegetation has been planted along the colored tile walkways, and one can enjoy a leisurely stroll and shopping with a view of Tokyo Tower, a symbol of the city, reaching into the sky towards the north. The Mita Shopping District Promotion Association was assigned the work for the Shopping District Transformation Strategy Program implemented by Minato Ward, and has commenced operation of a variable streetlight system. The light sources in the 56 round-globe streetlights installed along the streets have all been changed to full-color LEDs, and by controlling them with a color setting program they have made lighting in collaboration with various events and Tokyo Tower illuminations possible. The coming second phase of the project will see the conversion to LED of the high pressure sodium lamps used as light sources for the pedestrian walkway lighting. It is hoped that this illumination change will make the area more cheerful and popular as a new tourist attraction.
- About the lighting design using Link-Core
- The existing Mita Shopping District pedestrian walkway lighting used PAZU (EYE Sunlux Ace) lights for the pedestrian walkway lighting and twin-lamp lighting poles with round globes (EYE mercury lamps) for scenery, but with the operation of the variable streetlight system, the light sources in the round globes were changed to full-color LEDs. In order to make use of the existing equipment, because there was no communication wiring, controllers with a yearly program function enabling schedule management became necessary for total coordination of the lighting effects, and so the Link-Core controller (developed by the IWASAKI IoT/New Project Promotion Laboratory) was selected. The Link-Core controller features a board PC, timer functionality, and can create DMX effects, and changes to scheduling and data can be carried out with ease wirelessly. For the effect colors, the shopping district asked for the Tokyo Tower effects, and proposed a yearly effects program using full-color tape-lights.
