Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Rest Area) Hitachiomiya Kawa Plaza was established in Hitachiomiya City, and opened in March of last year. Conveniently located alongside National Route 118 and the banks of Kujikawa River, one of the most prominent clear streams in the Kanto region and famous for its Ayu fishing, it is a place of rest with abundant greenery and a pleasant breeze. With a lot area of roughly 5.6ha, it boasts the largest size for any such location within the prefecture, and features a full range of facilities, including an area selling local produce, restaurants and a food court, an information center, a restroom building, and a parking area, as well as a hands-on farm experience, a waterside plaza, and BBQ facilities. From the viewpoint of power savings, LED lighting fixtures were selected for the lighting for the facility's pedestrian walkways and parking area. LEDioc AREA type-D streetlights, which feature a characteristic ring-shaped design, were installed, as well as LEDioc ROAD roadlights to efficiently light the parking area. The large scale power-saving effects from the adoption of the LED lighting are already being felt, including reductions in power consumption, and attention is also being paid to the possible reductions in maintenance costs brought by the long operating life of 60000 hours. The rest area is popular as a long-stay facility where neighborhood families can enjoy spending time, and it is also widely used by tourists, with visitors from outside the prefecture accounting for 30% of users. The hope is that the facility will become popular with even more visitors who will then want to visit repeatedly in the future.
