Gakushuin University also carried out work to renovate the lighting for the university's gymnasium, located next to the north sports ground, upgrading it to LED lighting. 36 units of 280W LEDioc HIGH-BAY Γ LED high-ceiling lighting fixtures were installed in place of the existing 48 units of 1000W metal halide lamps, achieving large-scale power savings while maintaining a brightness equivalent to or greater than that existing previously. The fittings come equipped with a dimmer function, which when set to 80% maintains a design brightness of 500ℓx while enabling power consumption reductions of more than 70%. The gymnasium is used from 7 AM in the morning until after 8 PM at night for a variety of competitive events, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, trampoline, and fencing, and with a high frequency of use throughout the year, it is thought that the change to LED lighting will contribute to large-scale reductions in electricity costs. There was concern surrounding the installation of the lighting about glare in competitions such as badminton requiring looking up at the ceiling section, but the feedback from the students after the renovations has been positive regarding better brightness without feeling glare.

About the Gakushuin University Gymnasium Lighting Plans
The university's gymnasium also underwent an upgrade to LED lighting, and following measurement of the brightness of the randomly arranged existing lighting fixtures, which were 48 units of 1000W metal halide lamps, the new plan reviewed that arrangement and instead installed 36 units of 290W LEDioc HIGH-BAY Γ lights. The number of lights was reduced by 12 and power consumption is now 30% of what it was, but the lights deliver a set brightness of 500ℓx, ensuring a brightness equivalent to or greater than what was previously the case. The lighting fixtures have dimmer functionality and have been set to run on six circuit systems, and by carrying out lighting control that allows the lights to be turned on flexibly in accordance with various events and usage purposes, the lighting environment can now handle a wide range of uses. Finely detailed lighting control has been made possible, such as a setting for a dimmed mode in which - out of consideration for reducing glare for players during competitions like volleyball that especially involve a lot of looking upwards - the lighting circuit matching the setter position is made a little less bright.
